Projects

People First of Canada works on projects that explore important issues affecting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Canada.

We only take part in projects where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are meaningfully involved. Self-advocates must have a real role in the work – not just be asked for their opinions after decisions have already been made.

Our projects are grounded in the experiences, knowledge, and voices of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Self-advocates may help shape a project, share their experiences and ideas, or take part in surveys, interviews, focus groups, meetings, research, training, and other project activities.

These projects help us learn more about the barriers people face, identify what needs to change, and develop ideas and recommendations that can make a difference. They also give self-advocates opportunities to connect, learn from each other, and have their voices heard on issues that affect their lives.

Want to get involved?

We are always looking for people who are interested in taking part in PFC projects.

If you are a self-advocate and would like to hear about future opportunities, contact monica@peoplefirstofcanada.ca. Monica can tell you which projects are happening now or add your name to our list of people who would like to be contacted about future projects.

Your experience matters. Your ideas can help create change.
