Expectations of Advisors

What does it take to be a good advisor?
  • They have to be good around people
  • They can take the pressure – good nerves
  • Patience
  • A good listener – open ears
  • They know about rules for running a meeting

What do you expect from your advisor?
  • Help the leader go through meeting
  • Help with problems – talk them over
  • Helps the treasurer
  • Listens
  • Gets papers organized
  • Helps people to understand what you’re doing
  • Helps you to speak up
  • Honesty

What advisors should not do:
  • Should not get upset or lose their temper
  • Skip meetings
  • Ignore what you say
  • Vote
  • President or chairperson should be the leader, not the advisor
  • Run the meetings

How do you know when advisors are doing a good job?
  • They’re paying attention/listening
  • Leaders know what they’re doing
  • Leaders are getting better
